Clear Eyes Is Awesome

I was born in the 80's. I've watched too much TV.
Anyway, I was very surprised and delighted to see that my topic was chosen for Illustration Friday this week. Too bad the word I submitted was Clear. For the last few weeks IF has had themes related to translucency (Ghost, Wind, and Smoke), so as a sort of joke I entered a bunch of topics that mean clear. Like crystal, translucent, see-through and limpid (yeah, I used a thesaurus).
Couldn't Penelope have picked my word when it was Peas? Oh well! My website hits are way up, and I got to draw my first portrait of Ben Stein! Here's a link to one of the Clear Eyes commercials, via YouTube.com.

Funny stuff. Like your style (really like how you did your portrait(?) that appears in the thumbnail).
Excellent! Great drawing and imaginative concept.
great looking portrait
Very cool! I can actually hear him :)
your portraits keep getting better and better, i approve! 100%
Another excellent portrait, nice job.
Super creative blog. Congrats on getting an idea through to them finally!
I don't know the tv show you're talking about (maybe it never made it Down Under). But that's a lovely portrait - very vivid.
Wow! Great likeness, I knew who it was right away!
Very funny and very clever. Great drawing by the way.
aww... i heart senor stein - awesome sketch.
<3r
The cultural reference is lost on me too (another Aussie) but your drawing style is beautiful. I love your blog too... lots of great touches!
hey, I really like your sketches/illustrations. Your strokes, they seemed to be drawn with very confident hands. The characters in your potraits, they are very 'alive'.
great sketches, jeannette!!
Terrific, Ben Stein is so, well, Steiney. I always thought it was funny that he promoted a product that is 90% used by stoners. Great portrait, you captured the ironic humor in his face. Peas would have been a fun word to illustrate.
Funny to scroll down and see a dead-on rendering of BEN STEIN! (If you say his name out-loud, which I do hourly, you have to say it in your most nasal/monotone voice.)
And thanks for the link to the Clear Eyes commercial. I love the show and tell capacity to link anywhere, don't you?
haha that is awesome
very nice portrait - really captures the personality
Even I don't know who the Ben Stein is, I still can feel the essence of your drawing! All compliments!

I was going to say, 'hey, boy that sure looks like Ben Stein', and then I read on, and saw that, oh, it IS Ben Stein! Really nice likeness, and great take on the topic!
This is great...all your work i s great. I need some of your mojo to rub off on me!!
I recognized Ben Stein immediately even before I read your text. I saw Ben at a Starbucks in Malibu! I like your illustration, and I like Ben, he's a great writer. He's had some awesome stuff to read on the 'net.
jeje, this make me laugh, very good! and brilliant drawing :)
great work!
great work! love your beautiful sketches!
Your drawings are really beautiful! Like your line.
Haha- hey I was thinking the same thing about the see-through topics. But I'm thinking they are chosen based on a preference for certain letters--i.e., most of the topics since I found IllFri have begun with "S"(11x's?) and "C"(7x's?).
Anyway- very cool portrait of Ben!
great likeness, your portraits have a lot of charactor!
Ha ha ha! Thank you for enlightening me as to who Ben Stein is. He has a great deadpan manner.
Ben is a riot. Not a fan of his politics but love his humor! :-)
